Wath had yet another tough game Saturday against Barnsley 3rds, who were bolstered by some very good young players. The game was hard hitting, strong running and at times end to end.
Wath through out the game had to make changes due to injuries.
The First try of the game was scored by Wath prop Matt Sykes who from 10yds with assistance from James Dobson bullied his way over the line. Converted by Craig Wood.
Barnsley soon hit back with some flowing rugby and scored at pace. Conversion missed. Barnsley maintain their pressure and again crossed the Wath try line, this time converting.
With time running out Fly half Craig Wood seeing a gap and showing great strength crossed the Barnsley line to score and converted it himself.
Half Time: 14 - 12 Wath
The second half was very much highlighted by both sides having chances but not being able to convert them due to excellent defensive work by both teams. This resistance was finally broken by Wath with scrum half Martin Bragg taking a quick free kick and scoring himself from 5yds. Converted by Luke Pendlebury. Chances came and went again for both teams until some excellent individual running by Luke Pendlebury saw him cross Barnsley line to score in the corner. Taking and missing the conversion himself.
The match was highlighted by some crunching tackles by both sets of players, which later came to note that Second Row Dan Andrews had broken his ankle and leg in the game unbeknown at the time....
Final Score: 26 - 12 Wath.
