On Saturday Wath upon Dearne RUFC 1st XV welcomed league leaders West Leeds to Moor Road. The match was sure to be a extremely though one for the South Yorkshire men with the Leeds outfit won all four of their games so far this season.
Wath started brightly, an initial break from Matt Burrows meant Wath were attacking inside the West Leeds 22, after numerous phases the pressure eventually told and Joe Earp forced his way over, Sam Jones added the conversion 7-0.
The visitors were quick to respond, they earned a penalty infront of the sticks and their stand off was on target 7-3.
The remainder of the half was much of the rugby played around the middle of the park and one two occasions Wath were penalised around the half way mark, West Leeds impressive 10 stepped up both times and slotted the penalties to give his side the lead 7-9 going into half time.
Wath came out firing in the second half, they immediately set abut attacking the Leeds defensive line, from a strong scrum 10 metres out Joe Bartlett swivelled out of a tackle and pounced over the line 12-9.
With ten minutes to go it was West Leeds turn to attack, they went close to scoring on two occasions but outstanding cover defence from Sam Jones and Ben Cairns held them out.
They did however earn a penalty and once again their 10 was on target to level the scores.
In the closing minutes Wath pushed for the win but the West Leeds defence was unbreakable, final score Wath 12 West Leeds 12.
