On Saturday Wath upon Dearne RUFC made the short journey to Sheffield Medics, the match couldn't have started much worse for Wath with the young Medics side coming firing out of the blocks scoring two tries inside the opening five minutes.
Wath eventually regrouped and set about the task of getting back into the game they worked their way upfield and from a lineout the pack mauled their way over the line with Simon Lines getting the score. Sam Jones converted 12-7.
Wath pushed on from the restart back row Martin Balshaw burst through the defence line charging into the Medics 22, skipper Ashley Rothery recieved the ball at pace before throwing a superbly timed inside pass to stand off Adam West who raced over to score, the conversion from Jones gave Wath the lead.
Next up both sides exchanged penalties, Medics attempt fell short but Jones was on target with his attempt 12-17 at half time.
Early in the second half Wath's lead was cut when Medics earned a penalty 15-17.
Wath continued to attack, they came within inches of scoring but poor execution saw the ball lost and Medics reacted quickest, their impressive back line choosing the run the ball and getting just rewards with a length of the field try to take back the lead 22-17.
Wath needed to get themselves back into the game and stop Medics from dictating the game, with the help of an extremely dominant scrum they set about the task. The closing stages of the game resulted in two tries for Wath, both from scrums which saw the opposition driven back over their own line and Number 8 Matt Burrows controlling the ball to dot down.
They made hard work of it, but Wath had the bonus point win away from home, Medics 22 Wath 27.
