Wath upon Dearne RUFC welcomed Ripon to Moor Road and it was the visitors who made the brighter start to the match when they broke out in their own half and raced away to score.
Wath were able to hit back, Ripon had a defensive scrum 10 metres out, the Wath back dug deep and drove them off the ball, scrum half Joe Bartlett picked up the ball and swivelled through the tackle to dot down and level the scores 5-5. This would prove to be the final score of the first half 5-5.
The second half was a more high scoring affair, the visitors had the first score of the half when they side stepped their way under the sticks.
However Wath seen drew back level, Wath applied sustained pressure and eventually this pressure told, from another dominant scrum Wath turned the screw and Burrows was over for his second.
Ripon then pushed on, first they landed a penalty before quickly following up to increase their lead to 10 when they scored under the sticks 12-22.
Wath had to hit back, and quickly if they were to cut the deficit, a superb break from Balshaw and Rothery gave Wath good field position before Burrows ran on to the ball at pace and proved impossible to stop 19-22.
With just a few minutes to go Wath looked to snatch the lead, Wath were camped inside the Ripon 22 and from a scrum Burrows was over for his hat-rick, Barratt landed the conversion to secure the win for Wath. A very hard fought game that went right down the wire, final score Wath 26 Ripon 22.
