Wath 38 Knottingley 0

On Saturday Wath upon Dearne RUFC welcomed Knottingley to Moor Road, much to the delight of players and supporters alike the weather was distinctly less damp than the previous Saturday and so it was hoped there would be some flowing rugby on display.

Wath certainly didn't disappoint in the opening stages of the game, immediately from the kick off Wath earned a turn over, moved the ball wide and centre Danny Lord showed great strength to shrug off the defence and sprint away to score inside the first minute 7-0.

Wath continued to keep the pressure on, five minutes later they were over for their second, slick handling in the back line gave winger Jacob Mangahm just one mad to beat, the youngster fended off his opposite number and raced over out wide, full back Anthony Barratt was on target for his second conversion 14-0.

Ten minutes later it was try number three for Wath, Joe Bartlett sent a well weighted box kick into Knottingley territory, stand off Adam West chased up, won the race to ball and sprinted away to score 19-0.

On twenty minutes, Wath had the four try bonus point secured, Barratt entered the line and broke out wide, he found West in support who raced over for his ssecond 24-0.

The visitors then began to dominate possession and territory but the Wath defence was able to hold them out. Before the half was over Wath weere over for another try, following a series of strong drives through the midfield Luke Pendelbury recieved the ball and powered through the defensive line to score. Half time score Wath 31 Knottingley 0.

It was going to be difficult to top the first half, and unfortunately this proved to be the case, possession yo-yoed between the sides with neither really looking like scoring. But with less than 10 minutes to go the match burst back into life, although not to the benefit of the home side, initially at least. In the space of 3 minutes Wath had four players sent to the sin bin, including both props being sent to the bin at the same time. Knottingley were on the attack and with a fifteen to eleven man advantage.

However this was arguably the best moment of the match for Wath, the 11 men dug deep and held Knottingley out. With just minutes to play they worked their way upfield, a series of phases saw them go close before the ball was spun out wide and West stretched out to score hit hat-rick and a much celebrated try. Final score Wath 38 Knottingley 0, a strong all round team performance from the Moor Road men who have a break next weekend.
