On Saturday Wath upon Dearne RUFC 1st XV made the journey to Castleford to play a re-arranged fixture that had fallen fowl of the weather before Christmas.
Wath dominated the opening exchanges but it took them a while to capitalize as the Castleford defence was proving difficult to breach. The pressure eventually led to a try, centre Andy Linton burst through the defensive and line and found prop James McCarthy in support who crashed over 0-5.
Castleford soon had their first points on the board with a penalty 3-5.
Wath pushed on, strong running in the forwards pushed into the Cas 22 before back row Joe Earp ran onto the ball at pace and forced his way over, half time score 3-10.
Into the second half and Wath started brightly, replacement centre Martyn Bray broke through in midfield, quick ball was key in continuing the move before prop James Dobson dotted down 3-15.
Scrum half Jim West broke out from Waths 22 on 60 minutes, the move continued up-field before Bray cut back inside and crashed over, stand off Jack Whitlam converted 3-22.
The next try came from a break for wing Adam Clark, this gave strong field position resulting in a five metre line out. The Wath pack formed a maul and the Castleford pack couldn’t halt the charge 3-27.
The final try for Wath came with 5 minutes to go, from a scrum Wath went blind and full back Adam West entered the line and stretched out to score in the corner 3-32.
The final five minutes saw Castleford dominate and they got a deserved try with minutes to go from a kick and collect from their fly half.
Final score Castleford 8 Wath 32.
