With an injury list longer than a list of bye election candidates a game against title chasing Pontefract was always going to be a tall order for Wath at Moor Road on Saturday
Within 10 mins Wath were down 10 points when they lost their captain Mat Burrows and experienced centre Andy Linton. The reorganisation saw the introduction of Reece Tingle and Luck Pendlebury. Luke spearheaded a push over try which gave a 5- 18 Half time score in Pontefract’s favour
In the second half Wath experienced playing against Pontefract’s No 10 who had a pass longer than The Khyber pass and faster than the speed of light. He turn defence into attack and Wath had to rely on set piece possession orchestrated by their front row of Butterworth, Thompson and Mortimer. The visitors then changed their tactics to that of a kicking game but not once did Wath fail to field the high balls and did score another scrummage push over try .Luck also played a part in Pontefract’s success in that on another day both Steve Mason and Andy Barrett would have scored from two individual breaks. In Waths favour they never stopped trying
