From the kick off both teams set about dominating play, with some fine handling from both sides. Wath started to show their dominance in the scrums, putting extreme pressure on the Selby pack. Following continued pressure Wath pushed Selby back and with a fine piece of angled running Dan Andrews broke 3 tackles to score under the posts. Craig Wood converting.
Selby came quickly back at Wath and at times Wath were defending valiantly but this ended following some strong attacking and Selby crossed the line to score. Conversion missed.
Wath regrouped and up'd their pressure and the scrummaging started to tell in Wath's favour.
From one scrum approx 30yards out, Number 8 Ian Jessop spotting a gap picked up from the scrum and sprinted (well trundled) towards the Selby line. Following several missed tackles and some hand-off's he went over to score Wath's second try. Again Craig Wood converting.
Pressure remained on the Selby side with James Dobson showing strength and also assisted by Selby players, who dragged him across their line so he could score Wath's third try. Craig Wood converting. Half Time 21 - 5 Wath.
Following mass Wath changes, the second half started as the first half finished with Wath pressurising Selby. Following a penalty near Selby line Scrum half Martin Bragg took a quick free kick and crossed the line to score Wath's fourth try. Craig Wood converting. With the game becoming end to end, Luke Pendlebury latched on to the ball kicking it forward and eventually picking it up to cross the Selby line for Wath's fifth try. Craig Wood again converting.
At this point Selby appeared to find another gear and scored 3 quick try's the pick being from their left wing. Selby's left wing managed single handily to outwit Wath wing James Marshall, taking the ball on the bounce without breaking stride. Selby only converting one kick. Wath again found their feet and improved their tackling. Selby were to have the final say when Don Theaker Jnr. whilst attempting to tackle was pulled several yards across the line with the Selby player. Conversion again missed.
Final score: 35 - 27 Wath. Also a thank you to those who turned up to support both sides..
