Wath 3rds got a lesson in RUGBY from Scunthorpe 4ths, who from the off, were stronger, fitter and more organised. Wath strength which is normally its scrum was dominated by a far larger Scunthorpe pack. Wath also had difficulty in winning lineout ball. Wath missed tackles but when they did get a good tackle in, Scunthorpe players were always there in support.
Wath at times tried to utilise their young fit backs but just couldn’t get them going. Scunthorpe running in 4 tries in the first half, converting 2. Scunthorpe could have had more but Waths defence at times was very good. Half Time : 24 – 0 Scunthorpe.
In the second half things continued much in the same vein as the first half, with Scunthorpe attacking, Wath defending. Following some positional changes in the Wath pack, the Wath scrum started to hold it own a bit better. Scunthorpe continued to run in tries, finally finishing the half scoring 5, converting 2.
Final Score: 53 – 0 Scunthorpe
