From the off, the game was scrappy, with neither side being able to utilise the ball. Wath had started the game poorly with Barnsley scrum and back row running riot. This was to prove important as Barnsley push forward and dominate Wath in all areas, with their big flankers causing the most damage.
Barnsley was to score twice, converting once before Wath finally started to play and put the Barnsley pack on the back foot. This help to limit good ball to the Barnsley back row and gave Wath's back row a change to show their pedigree.
From a scrum 5 metre out, Wath's No 8. Ian Jessop picked up the ball and forced his way over the Barnsley try line, converted by Craig Wood.

The second half saw both teams attempt to assert dominance with the Wath scrum proving the stronger. Wath started to push Barnsley around the park and were again to score following good forward play with Matt Cooke crashing over from 5 metres, conversion missed Craig Wood.
The game became scrappy again and following some Wath pressure, Barnsley conceeded a penalty. Penalty converted by Craig Wood.
Wath pack continued to dominate and keep the Barnsley back row quiet but this was to end when following an INJURY? to a Barnsley prop. The game went to uncontested scrums, which was more to the benefit of the Barnsley team.
The last 10 minutes of the game saw, Wath defending and Barnsley encamped in the Wath 22. Wath players were putting in a sterling defensive performance but were to fall just short as Barnsley eventually crossed the Wath try line in the last play of the game. Conversion converted.
