Wath 2XV beat local rivals and continue their winning streak

Wath 2XV continued their impressive streak of wins over a Barnsley side that is in the merit league above them this season. Within the first five minutes, Robert Booth tore off from the back of the defensive line to place Ethan as the first try scorer of the game. Wath supporters did not have to wait for long again, as Danny Jones destroyed the opponent’s defence in order to touch down, as Barnsley realised that Wath were no push over and would have to work hard just to get the ball out of their defensive zone.
Thirty minutes into the game, Barnsley had already been awarded two penalties, however after missed both opportunities to get some points onto the board. The game came to a halt as Barnsley’s number seven endured a blow to the head. After the final minutes of the game were resumed, captain Jim West pressured the opponent to kick out of a scrum just as the whistle blew up for half time.
The game seemed to work greatly in Wath’s favour yet again, as blindside flanker Dan Andrews pushed his way through the oncoming tackles to score in the second half. Barnsley were trying to desperately to work their way up the field, however could not find a weakness in the solid defence of Wath’s players.
Frustrations were at a high amongst Barnsley players as they watched Jason Wong and Chris Wyatt charge into the danger zone, piling on more points for Wath. Two more tries were to come from Adam West and Dan Andrew, who very much earned his second try of the match.
With ten minutes to go before the final whistle, Wath appeared faultless however a slight lack of concentration allowed Barnsley to score their only try of the game and convert.
Man of the match was awarded to Dan Andrews for his outstanding effort in the forwards throughout the entire game as well as seizing two tries for team. The final score was 45-7.
Team: Jim West (c), Adam West, Robert Booth, Dale Jackson, Arran Tasker, Jonty Morrisey, Chris Wyatt, Luke Pendlebury, Sean Power, Joe Thompson, Ethan Dyson, Jason Wong, Danny Jones, Bobby Lazenby, James McCarthy, Huw Jones, Dan Andrews and Andy Linton
Another resounding win for Wath 2XV. Thank you to Barnsley for a great game of rugby.
