Wath 2nds 26 : 0 Wheatley Hills 2nds. 7/2/15
Gone are the days when Wheatley turned up with 8 players for this fixture. A full squad with plenty of bench players took part in this game. Wath kicked up hill first half and started well with some good set piece ball generated and with Rob Booth at 10 mixing up his game well, kicks, pass and run. Wheatley were very good in defence and very quick over the ball at breakdowns, winning several turnovers, their 10 released his backs well but they were stopped in their tracks by the excellent Wath defence, Luke Pendlebury at full back making several good tackles and Danny Lord at centre foiling several attacks. Waths forward domination lead to a try after 15 minutes following superb driving scrum. Rob Booth converted. From the restart the pattern continued excellent possession setting the backs free to attack, eventually Danny Lord went over for a try wide not converted. The half finished with Wath 12-0 up. In the second half Wheatley again defended well and Wath provided lots of flair in attack. Some very slick moves just being caught and some lack of precision causing missed passes. Following a powerful drive from a lineout the ball was slipped to Andy Linton who powered over under the posts from 15m. Converted by Booth. The familiar pattern continued with the occasional Wheatley attack into the Wath 22 being stymied by great cover tackling by all team and notably skipper Jim West. The final try went to Danny Lord now operating on the wing following classical backs play. Converted by Rob Booth who had his kicking boots on today. Wheatley continued to try and breakthrough but the Wath boys were determined to keep them to nil. The ref helped to keep the game flowing and provided an entertaining spectacle for the sizeable crowd of Wath and Wheatley supporters.
