After last week’s point’s fest Wath faced a much sterner task against Sandal. However they had the benefit of returning Steve Wesson, Tom Quinn and Steve Clegg, all vintage Rugby players.
Within the first 5 minutes Sandal showed their intention, some poor defending by Wath gave the visitors a converted try. This was cancelled out by Adam West who seems to call the score board his own. A yellow card rightly so was given against Wath, quick tap by Sandal and they took the lead HT 12 14 to Sandal game on
The second half delivered some rugby of shear class, Jason Cotton became a human battering ram and Rory Anderson at centre dancing through the Sandal defence like a male ballet star. Simple box kicks by Jim West constantly put Sandal under pressure allowing Cotton and Steve Wesson to score .With minutes to go and the score line at 24 21 Wath needed to keep calm but nerves were settled by a good individual try and conversion by Shaun Power. The final tally was 6 tries for Wath. Steve Wesson, Jason Cotton (2) Adam West (2) and Shaun Power who also converted three them.
The man of the match was Jason Cotton, closely pushed by Rory Anderson. Joe Thompson gets a mention for his clearing out of a ruck and poleaxeing the 18 stone centre.
