Dinnington 2nds 0 : 17 Wath upon Dearne 2nds

Wath 2XV travelled to Dinnington for the second fixture of the season. The team was much changed, with moves to 1XV, Injuries and trips to the St. Leger!!!
Rory Anderson moved to centre and Jonny Moore back from defending the country partnered him in midfield. From the beginning the Wath forwards started to impose the driving game, good runs by Bobby Lazenby, James Thompson and Tony Kenney got the team on the front foot. When Dinnington did get posession the defence was well organised and tenacious. With 10 minutes gone Adam Clarke went over for a try after cutting through the defence, he then popped over the conversion. Continuous pressure saw Wath just stopped short when a 4 man overlap was butchered. However Skipper Jim West went over shortly after, the conversion went wide in the swirling wind. Wath then suffered a couple of injuries, Gaz Allott twisted his back when a scrum collapsed so Calum Mcnally moved from 2nd to front row. Harry Johnson came into back row. Shortly before half time Tony Kenney suffered a deadleg, Alex Anders came into back row. The half ended 12-0 to Wath. Having used the two subs, the 15 on the field knew they had a hard 40 minutes ahead, playing uphill.
The game restarted and several Dinnington attacks were thwarted. When Wath had the ball it was moved quickly to the wings and heroic last ditch defence kept the score down. From a long distance clearance kick by fly-half Adam Clark the ball went into touch 2m from Dinnington Try line. From the 5m lineout possession was secured and the pack drove over with James Thompson touching down.
Dinnington kept trying and freshened up their team with some good young players, However Wath held out. With 3 minutes left Alex Anders clashed heads at a ruck with a Dinnington player. For referee promptly blew for safety and the excellent Dinnington Physio team were looking after him with seconds. After a couple of minutes of on field treatment, the skippers agreed that the result would not change and the ref called time 3 minutes early.
